Healthy Lunchboxes

As an accredited ‘Healthy School’ we want to support parents and carers as much as possible to make healthy choices for children’s meals.  We recognise that a healthy meal is important because it will help children to be fitter and healthier now and in later life and will support children’s learning.  Please find below some clarification on the schools’ expectations in term of requirements for lunchboxes.

Where possible packed lunches should include:

  • One portion of sandwiches, bread roll, pitta bread or pasta salad
  • At least one portion of fruit (e.g. apple, orange) and one portion of vegetables (e.g. carrot/cucumber sticks)
  • One portion of yoghurt or cheese
  • One drink of either water or squash
  • One portion of a healthy pudding (e.g. raisins, cereal bar, fruit bread)
  • No more than one cake, biscuit bar or packet of crisps

Where possible packed lunches should not include:

  • Any food containing nuts of any kind as we are a 'No Nut School' (to protect those pupils with severe allergies)
  • Whole grapes or whole cherry tomatoes (please note these must be cut in half as a safety precaution to prevent choking)
  • Fizzy drinks or energy drinks
  • Glass bottles or cans
  • Sweets or chocolate bars
