Rights Respecting School

Tredegar Park Primary School aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture.

In October 2021 Tredegar Park Primary School signed up to work with Unicef UK to become a Rights Respecting School.  The purpose of this page is to give you some information about what it is, what’s involved and the impact that we hope it will have.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working to ensure that children across the world access and enjoy their full range of human rights as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  In the UK Unicef is working with 5000 schools through the Rights Respecting Schools programme, so we are joining a significant and growing movement for change in the way children experience their school and their childhood.

A Rights Respecting School is a community based on principles of equality, dignity, respect and non-discrimination.  Children, young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.  The award recognises achievement in putting the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s practice to improve well-being and outcomes for every child and to help all children realise their potential.

Great news...we have just achieved our Bronze Award!

Well done to all the staff and pupils involved!

We felt very strongly that we wanted to do something to contribute to the situation in the Ukraine and so we recently carried out a #CookForUkraine bake sale.  Thank you to all those who baked and bought, we raised over £500! The Rights Respecting School organisation has even put us on their website.  Click the link below to have a look!
